A former three-star recruit, Haynes redshirted during the 2013 season then emerged as a part-time player at offensive guard as a redshirt freshman. Haynes made his first career start in against Vanderbilt at left guard. He rotated at both guard spots as a sophomore and also saw brief snaps at right tackle. Haynes did not begin his football career until his junior year of high school.
