Andrew Ivins
Andrew Ivins Southeast Recruiting Analyst

A quick-twitched big man that can get after the quarterback. Cut his teeth up in Baltimore totaling 10 sacks as a sophomore before transferring into the national powerhouse that is IMG Academy in advance of his junior season. Did most of his damage as an 11th grader out on the edge (stood up on some occasions), but projects as more of an interior player long term given dimensions (measured just under 6-foot-4, 250 pounds Summer of 2022). Causes plenty of issues for opposing lineman with not only his initial burst, but also his aggressive hands as he likes to swipe and rip his way around obstacles. Shifts his weight well for someone of his stature as he redirects and tries to find the football. Must keep evolving as a player and learn how to anchor against technically-sound blockers, but plays with a competitive spirit and isn’t one that gives up on a rush, which is always encouraging. Should be viewed as a ball of clay that could be molded into a variety of different things depending on scheme and team needs. Likely will need some time to get adjusted to the physicality and demands of Power Five football, but has a higher ceiling given how he moves for someone his size. Should take a massive step forward at some point down the line. NFL upside.

Athletic Background

Started career off in Baltimore where he played basketball at the prep level.
----
2022: Transferred into IMG Academy ahead of junior season. Part of an Ascenders defense that forced 30 turnovers and gave up just 3.0 points per game. The unit also held opponents to just 2.1 yards per rush and 3.7 yards per pass.
2021: As a sophomore, totaled 48.5 tackles (17 for loss), 10 sacks and 3 FF while at Baltimore’s Gilman High. Also blocked a punt.
