Andrew Ivins Director of Scouting

Greg Newsome Cleveland Browns

The type of cornerback that has the tools to shut down one side of the field or take an opponent’s top receiver out of the game. Pushing 6-foot and equipped with arms that stretch north of 33 inches. Uses that length to his advantage as he’s one of the best in the 2024 cycle when it comes to locating the football, maintaining position and then making a play at the catch point. Pretty scheme versatile for a youngster as he has already been exposed to press, off-man and quarters coverages. Clean footwork and a smooth backpedal allows him to quickly gain plenty of depth while a balanced platform allows for swift transitions. Will eventually need to add some mass if he wants to consistently hold his own against college-sized players, but is already aggressive with his hands and can disrupt routes at the line of scrimmage. Is also a spirited open-field tackler. Tends to make acrobatic pass break ups look pretty routine, but that's likely a byproduct of his natural bounce. Has already tested in the upper percentile with a laser-timed 4.5 in the 40-yard dash on file to go along with a 36-inch vertical jump. While the takeaway totals might not blow some away (had just one interception as a junior) he was able to make a difference right away after transferring into the national power that is IMG Academy. More than likely will need some time to get adjusted to the speed and tactics of big-time college football, but is already pretty technically sound and could work his way onto the field sooner rather than later given his already impressive resume. NFL upside.

H.S. Athletic Background

Originally from Connecticut.
2022: Transferred into IMG Academy where he carved out a role as a starting CB for the Ascenders, who went 8-1 playing a national schedule. Rose to the occasion in a highly-anticipated showdown with Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy as he picked off a pass and broke up another. Also got his hands on multiple balls on the road at Phenix City Central.

2020/2021: Started prep career off playing up at Iona Prep, which competes in New York’s Catholic League. As a sophomore, picked off eight passes. Participated in the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl.
